All,

I have installed Oracle version 9i yesterday on e: drive, it is working fine and my SID is seclbsp. The tnsnames.ora is at E:\oracel\..\admin.

Now I want to install Developer 2000 rel 2.1 so what STEPS i have to take so that TNSNAMES.ORA problem should not come.

I will install Developer on C: drive? Is it ok?

You can install Developer 2000 where ever you want.
Every client will have its own version of tnsnanmes.ora.
Alternatively, you can just use aliases for the same file
or
just set TNS_ADMIN and use it.

>>thx for you it is easy
It is easy for all. It is no voodoo stuff Smile.
Just search this forum/google/docs.

TNS_ADMIN is the environment variable which will identify the tnsnames.ora, wherever it is.
Alias is just a "shortcut" to tnsnames.ora in another directory.
I believe it is the right term. It is called as soft link/symbolic link in Unix and "alias" in MAC.

And in most cases, if you are just using your local client against
your local database, you do not need tnsnames entries at all (ORACLE_SID will identify the instance).
Or atleast it used to be like that. It is been ages since I used Developer 2000.

As you know that I have already installed Oracle 9i on E:. now when I am installing Developer 2000 the forllowing message is coming .
HOME CHANGE INFORMATION

Quote:
The Oracle installed has detected that already have an existing Oracle home at E:\Oracle\ora90. selecting a different location will disable your currently installed oracle products. Choose back to select existing location ...

Now if I will change the Orcale path then Oracle will not start OR changing the path the message is coming as

Quote:
the location specified, E:\Oracle\Ora90", is already used as Oracle home for 'Oracle 82 Beta'
It cannot be used as an Orcale home for 'nt'

Pls guide OR id any document is available to install Oracle and then D2K .

Every Oracle installation will need is own "directory".
For example
C:\oracle\ora92
C:\oracle\d2k

Just install d2k where ever you want.
Find the docs here
http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/forms.html

BTW, working on outdated versions is just a waste of time.

Still,
There is no point in brushing your skills in an outdated "Platform".
