I have upgraded to XP Pro and DB 9i (for 98)  trying to install Developer suite.  at Installer, error "unable to set up inventory.  you may not have proper permissions" I have admin permissions on this machine.  I set up new path, c:oraDevel with disk1 and disk2 folders,  Please help

I know this was posted a while ago, but thought I would answer just in case anyone else has this problem. Your problem might be related to your XP upgrade.

We got this error when we tried to install Oracle client tools on a Windows XP box that had been "upgraded" from Windows 98. The Windows XP install had been made over the top of Windows 98. Something with this type of install disagreed with the Oracle stuff. We solved the problem by rerunning the Windows XP install after a complete reformat of the local hard drive. This removed all traces of Windows 98 and the Oracle install went on without a problem.

Search this forum for 'XP' and 'SP2'. I don't know the issue but something to do with a firewall that exists in SP2. Hope this info helps.
